Tim Burchett’s campaign manager just subscribed to my Substack

On a strategy call with my deputy campaign manager, he abruptly paused.

“I think Tim Burchett’s campaign manager just subscribed to our communications. Let me make sure.” He sure has.

We’ve known for a while that Tim’s getting nervous. This is a race he shouldn’t have to break a sweat to win. This district has been red since Reconstruction. He’s the incumbent. He has the President’s endorsement, corporate PAC money, and the whole MAGA machine.

I’m a Democrat, a first time candidate, a woman, who is funded by grassroots donors.

Why would his campaign manager have to subscribe to our campaign to get updates on what we’re doing? I have dozens of former Burchett supporters forwarding me his emails, texts, ads, and mailers on a daily basis.

I’ll tell you why: Our campaign is making Tim work harder than he ever has, and houses he thought he didn’t have to canvass because they were “reliable” votes are now voting for me.

East Tennesseans aren’t buying his bluster, even if it comes in a Carhartt with a whole bunch of dadgums to punctuate it.

What Tim fails to understand is that you have to back up words with actions. You can’t just rage against the system when you’re a lifelong politician who’s helped create it. At a certain point, folks want receipts. They want you to deliver.

So when Tim tells us he’s in DC to fight for working class folks but then votes for permanent tax breaks for the wealthy while the tax cuts on tips and overtime disappear in two years . . . we see through it.

When he acts like a critic of the Washington elite but then spends thousands of dollars at the Capitol Hill club . . . we see through it.

When he calls me a radical for wanting East Tennesseans to have healthcare they can afford, good paying jobs, a government that serves us, and an economy that works for the working class . . . we see through it.

We know there’s only one radical in this race. We know there’s only one person who has sold out to the swamp. And it’s not me.

P.S. Hi Thomas! If you’re reading this, could you let Tim know that I’d be happy to set up a debate? You can set the time and place. Just make sure anyone can attend, not just folks who’ve passed one of your ideological screener questions to gain access.
